HOW I BECAME A BAHÁ'Í

All my life I have believed in, nay rather, I have been certain of, the existence of God. But I did not know what kind of relationship I wanted with Him. So I looked around, and at age 14 I confirmed my Faith in Jesus Christ. However, I felt that Christianity was a religion for society 2000 years ago, and not for us. So I prayed that God would send me a sign, to tell me what to do and where to go. And He sure did - in the shape of a 16-yearold girl who became my best friend.

We did not talk about religion until one day, when we were teaming up for an English assignment. We were supposed to talk about a person that had changed our lives. I let my friend choose, and she chose 'Abdu'l-Bahá - the eldest son of Bahá'u'lláh, the Prophet-Founder of the Bahá'í Faith. I started examining this world religion, and soon realized I had finally come home.

My parents, non-confessional as many Swedish people, were reluctant as their 15-yearold girl wanted to "join" a religion they had never heard of. So they told me to wait until I was 18 (the age at which you in Sweden are considered an adult). They figured that if it was a bad thing I would have forgotten all about it by then... But October 1, 1994 I signed the membership declaration card that said (in Swedish of course):
"I acknowledge Bahá'u'lláh as the Messenger of God for this Era".

The rest is history...
